The Vanities opener page in the magazine—conceived as our so-called “second cover”—turns 20 this year. And so, for its birthday, we look at back at the making of the page throughout its history—including its aesthetic inspiration (hattip, Elvgren!) and the ingenues-turned-A-listers who made the cut. There’s a girl on facebook, she’s a friend actually, who always posts such annoying statuses. Those deep statuses, you know. When it’s totally about nothing but the way it’s written seems to give everyone the feeling that it’s really intelligent and beautiful.
